It’s close encounters of the Lowell kind tonight as the popular Syfy channel series Fact or Faked airs video footage of an alleged UFO sighting in Lowell.
An investigative-based TV show, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, charges a team of experts led by former FBI agent Ben Hansen to review various photographs and viral videos of alleged mysterious sightings and try to explain them, according to the show’s website.
An incident that took place in the night sky over south Lowell last year has made the cut.
On March 3, 2011, Lowell resident Joe Souza was hanging out with friends, Tyler Downey and Adam Faulkner, when he spotted a strange object overhead.
“It looked like something out of a movie to me,” Souza says. “My friends were also thinking, ‘What the heck is that?'”
From the area where Souza and his friends were standing, near Floyd Street, the unidentified object with strange glowing lights appeared to change shapes, morphing from a triangle to a square, to a shape resembling a kite, Souza said.
Souza grabbed a video camera and shot the scene, which has since received more than 14,000 hits on You Tube. After the footage was posted online, other Lowellians reported seeing the mysterious object that same night.
“I believe they weren’t just lights or lanterns,” Souza said. “I have always thought something else is out there and I always needed to see proof. This is my proof.”
Is Souza’s Lowell sighting proof that earthlings are not alone? Tune in tonight and see what the Syfy team has to say.
Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files airs tonight at 9 p.m. on channel 062 and on channel 862 for HD TV.
